Introduction:

There may be value to understanding the interests and needs of a journal’s audience, particularly regarding open access publishing (OAP) and behaviours associated with predatory publishing while establishing a new field-specific journal. As a new journal facing potential challenges in the publishing space, the Journal of Natural Health Product Research (JNHPR) undertook a stakeholder and community feedback initiative on publishing research in the field of natural health products (NHPs).

Abstract:

The following are abstracts of research presentations given at the 12th INCAM Research Symposium. The theme for this year’s conference was “Reconnecting Resilient Communities: Integrative Health Research & Promoting Wellness” which was held as a virtual conference on October 13-14 and 17-18, 2022, hosted by the Centre for Integrative Medicine and the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology of the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Introduction

Medical students experience significant stress and impacts on mood due to multiple factors. Unmitigated stress impacts both physical and mental health while increasing the risk of unethical behavior. It is important for medical institutions to identify strategies that effectively reduce perceived stress and improve the well-being of their students.

Methods

The authors undertook a scoping review of the literature to identify strategies implemented by medical educational programs to improve the well-being of medical students.

Objectives

Naturopathy is a traditional medicine system informed by codified philosophies and principles, and an emphasis on non-pharmacologic therapeutic interventions. While naturopathy is practised by approximately 75 000–100 000 000 naturopathic practitioners in at least 98 countries, little is known about the international prevalence of history of consultation with a naturopathic practitioner.

Background:

Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by chronic pain, with allodynia and hyperalgesia being the most common signs. Many patients with FM explore, express interest, and use complementary and alternative medicine to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. However, little is known about the clinical recommendations provided by naturopathic doctors (NDs).

Objective:

To describe trends in assessment and treatment of patients with FM by NDs.

Abstract

The process of applying new scientific knowledge to clinical decision-making is critical for the provision of optimal healthcare delivery; however, this process is often slow or inconsistent. Knowledge mobilization is the iterative and bidirectional process that involves the generation, dissemination, and translation of knowledge between researchers and knowledge users. Incorporation and application of knowledge mobilization in health care is being increasingly recognized across all fields, including naturopathic medicine.
