David Scotten Scholarship for Excellence in Naturopathic Medicine
David Scotten Scholarship for Excellence in Naturopathic Medicine
David A. Scotten has distinguished himself as a visionary and pillar of naturopathic medical education in Canada. Earning both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University, Scotten recognized the need for rigorous and innovative naturopathic education. As the inaugural Dean of Academic Education at the CCNM - Boucher Campus (formerly the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine) in Metro Vancouver, Scotten not only spearheaded the design and implementation of a comprehensive four-year naturopathic medical curriculum but also played an instrumental role in the institute achieving full accreditation by the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education in 2004.
Yet, beyond these achievements, Scotten's true legacy lies in his learner-centred approach. An advocate for continuous learning, he pursued a master's degree in learning and technology, further enriching his educational insights. His influence extended beyond the walls of Boucher. He served on the executive committee of the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education, and actively participated in international accreditation site visits, underscoring his commitment to excellence in naturopathic education.
As we honour Scotten's retirement, we celebrate a luminary whose dedication shaped naturopathic medical education in Canada. This new scholarship is a tribute to his past achievements and an investment in the future he envisioned: a future of excellence in naturopathic medicine. We invite the community to join us in continuing his legacy of furthering naturopathic education. The scholarship will award an enthusiastic third-year student whose leadership has positively impacted the CCNM community.
