Senior Accountant (CCNM - Boucher or CCNM - Toronto Campus)

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Senior Accountant professional to provide senior-level financial expertise in the Finance Department.
Reporting to the Controller, this challenging position will include the following duties:
General Ledger & Financial Statements
  • Maintains and analyzes General Ledger including posting Journal entries
  • Assists with preparation of draft monthly financial statements for the leadership team and board
  • Develop detailed internal reporting to aid with budget management
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and bank statements
  • Files quarterly HST returns and resolves any outstanding issues in a timely manner
Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Verifies and approves daily cash receipts summaries
  • Reviews tuition postings by working with the Registrar’s office to look for ways to improve processes for better accuracy and analysis on tuition variances
  • Records tuition payment receipts and assist with collections attempts
  • Assists with handling of student inquiries regarding tuition fees and maintaining great service within the general mailbox
  • Provides ongoing coaching, counseling, and mentoring to other staff to ensure their performance of duties in an efficient and effective manner
  • Provides backup and support in overseeing the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
Audit Working Papers
  • Obtains the “client assistance package” and other required information from external auditors
  • Assists in resolving any outstanding issues before the end of the fiscal year
  • Compiles the audit working paper in accordance with the deadlines, maintaining a high standard of accuracy, completeness, and organization
Projects and Other
  • Reviews and validates capitalization of assets on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of asset ledger and capitalized assets are appropriately recorded
  • Works with various business areas on projects to put new systems, upgrades or improvement in place to advance the business
  • Considers finance policies and procedures and robust controls when recommending solutions and changes
  • Ensures new finance processes and controls are in place with all changes to mitigate risk
  • Able to assist other departments with accounting procedures in the implementation of new software
  • Able to respond to queries on financial issues when Controller is absent and assists finance team in troubleshooting discrepancies and problem-solving issues
  • Aids business area leaders with process improvement and maintaining solid controls in a diverse setting
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Completion of a CPA designation with a minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting
  • Experience with computerized accounting software (preferably Microsoft NAV) and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with preparation and analysis of Financial Statements and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external clients
  • Ability to provide financial services at the level required by the organization
  • Tact, discretion and ability to exercise professional judgment in a highly confidential environment
  • Proven ability to maintain organized financial systems for projects and/or department including records management
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to prioritize assignments
  • Exemplary customer service skills to deal with a wide variety of internal and external clients
